Partying at Altitude

Our Rocky Mountain home and neighborhood will be the site of our wedding, reception, and fun activities a few days before and after the big day. Preparing to party at 9,200 feet is as simple as drinking lots of water beginning a day or two before you arrive and continuing through your visit, cutting alcohol consumption in half until you know how you do with it two miles high, and slowing down and sleeping a bit more your first day or two. If you know you have altitude sickness, visit your doctor to request preventative medication, which you may need to begin taking before you travel.

Visitors to the mountains often get headaches. The cure is simple: Drink water, drink water, drink water. Some folks find they do best by spending a night or two in the Denver area, which is 5,280 feet, before coming to the higher altitude. A few days in Denver can be fun. The restaurants are good; the baseball scene is relaxed if not known for stellar action (unfortunately the Avalanche wont' have started the seasons); the museums, the zoo and the botanical garden are enjoyable; and there's a candy factory that offers tours.

If you enjoy water play, bring a swimsuit. We have kayaks and a paddle board, and August is the best month to enjoy these. Like to fish? Bring a rod and reel. You won't need a Colorado fishing license to fish our lake. If you want to fish at the Golden Gate Canyon State Park, less than a mile from our home, you will need a license, which you can get online.

And bring your hiking boots and dancing shoes!
