Food & Lodging in Gilpin County
Gilpin County is somewhere over the rainbow — one of its charms — but fortunately the other side of the rainbow offers unique and beautiful lodging and dining opportunities. Situated only about an hour from downtown Denver, Gilpin is a hidden gem that boasts numerous Vrbo and Air BnB accommodations ranging from cozy to spacious. There are hotel rooms aplenty at the casinos in nearby Black Hawk and Central City, about nine miles from our home — a 20-minute drive on a paved state highway with gentle curves. Check out our lodging page for more specifics.

Dining is mostly casual though the casinos have restaurants with fancier fare and more sophisticated atmospheres. This is the West, so BBQ, pizza, steak, and Mexican food are easy to find.

Colorado hosts breweries and more breweries, all serving bar food in addition to their local brews. There are a few local wineries, distilleries and coffee brewers.

Mount Thorodin at 10,540 feet overlooks the meadow near our home. Short summer afternoon showers and our brilliant sun that shines more than 300 days/year combine to bring color to our landscape.
