Eating and Drinking
in Gilpin County
and Surrounds
Eating and drinking in our hood is about kicking back, meeting up with friends when possible, and supporting our neighbors by frequenting their establishments.
At top, Gussie Walter, vintner and owner of Augustina's Winery in Nederland, Colorado, relaxes with her husband Dave Walker. Gussie and Dave, our next door neighbors, will provide wine for our wedding and host a tasting party for wedding guests, time to be determined. Plan to take home a bottle or two.

Other local establishments we recommend include:
-
Dostal Alley, pictured above. This Central City brewery, pizza parlor and casino is one of a very few locally owned casinos in our county.
-
Very Nice Brewing Company, above right top, opened a new, large facility just a mile from our house earlier this year. They also have a site in Nederland. This brewery serves bar food and hosts live music.
-
Busey Brews Smokehouse and Brewery, above right bottom, is Nederland's premiere BBQ restaurant. Andy recommends the St. Louis-style pork ribs and the house-smoked BBQ platter; Dana the mac & cheese. The restaurant has year-round outdoor tables, kept warm by overhead heat lamps plus cozy indoor seating.
-
Katmandu Restaurant, below right, in Nederland, is amazing. Resham Gurung, a native of Nepal opened the restaurant in 1999 and expanded to a restaurant of the same name in Boulder, Colorado, in 2015. The food is as good as any you'll find in New York City.
-
Toss Pizza, below center, is a new establishment in Rollinsville, an unincorporated area five miles of our home. Their crisp thin crust would do any Chicago pizzeria proud. And the price is reasonable.
-
The Covered Wagon Restaurant and Saloon in Nederland, below right, is a western-style diner, casual and down-home in tone. Andy recommends the rueben sandwich; Dana the fish and chips. Service is friendly.
-
Wondervu Cafe on Highway 72 in the heart of Coal Creek Canyon is a bit further to drive on a mountain road but it's worth the time and adventure. Dana says go for the chile relleno burrito, which is good for at least two meals so plan to get a doggie bag or share with someone. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Great Mexican entrees. Don't like Mexican? No problem. There are All American meals, too, especially for breakfast.
